Sodeyn Dispariah

Sodeyn Dispariah was a member of Grippsly's Gang, and is secretly the current Matron of the Merse Collective.

Description

Sodeyn bares the grey skin, white hair and eyes of a shapeshifter, but rarely appears in this form unless to her friends or close allies.

They most notably have been disguised as their friend Herald Elimarah, and over 7 years has made subtle changes to that 'mask', enabling Elimarah to disguise her identity with little issue. This mask of Elimarah eventually became a brown haired, brown eyed and pale skinned human.

History

Like most shapeshifters, or 'Scion-blooded', Sodeyn's childhood was spent in isolation as an oddity in Kerebrihn, born to two parents that thought they were cursed for bearing such a creature. Sodeyn grew up hiding from others and filled with self-loathing.

When the Violate King sacked Kerebrihn in 2372, Sodeyn fled south, losing their parents in the process. They were allocated to a Merse ran orphanage, where Sodeyn continued to push themselves away from others. They turned to religion to cope with their lost life, and Sodeyn became a devotee to SLMV, asking every night why they were like this.

In Sodeyn's eyes, their prayers were answered when a bossy and nosy girl named Elimarah demanded they join her gang, as they needed someone taller and creepier than them to help fight another gang of kids. Sensing no judgement from Elimarah on their nature, Sodeyn willingly fell in with this gang of misfits; Grippsly's Gang. Despite their brooding nature and dislike of the rowdy boys in the group, Sodeyn desperately cared for their new friends, and spent every night praying for their continued safety.

The gang appreciated Sodeyn's ability to become anyone, and what was once viewed as curse became the centrepoint for their acceptance into their new family. As the gang grew however, they began to drift apart as their livelihoods and freedom pulled them in different directions. When her only remaining friend, Elimarah, told her she was considering sailing away with Grippsly on a voyage north, Sodeyn could only think of the terror of being alone again, and the willingness to do anything to avoid it.

So they climbed atop the Seawall of Voltaine, and prepared to jump to their death. Unexpectedly, they were stopped by Elimarah, but tragically they both slipped on the wet stone, and fell to their deaths on the rocks below.

But death was not their fate. The pair instead traveled through the Rubicon, and through eclectic and terrifying visions and experiences, were shown of a grave threat to all of Noth. Both were gifted great power to seek out and eliminate this threat at all cost, and the pair ascended to become Heralds.

While Elimarah eventually used her renown as a Herald to secure the Matronage of the Merse, Sodeyn remained a secret to all but Elimarah. They used their abilities to 'blur' their identities together, and created a Herald to present to the public. Secretly, Sodeyn ran much of the apparatus of the Merse in Elimarah's stead, and began recruiting agents to serve their purposes in safeguarding a future only they can see, but cannot warn of...

Recent Events

Sodeyn was first encountered in Torrens by Orin and Ffamran in disguise as Elimarah. 'Elimarah' instructed the pair to escort Merse Mistress Cassandra through the city to a contractor that would help her in her pilgrimage to the Fallen Litany. When Orin reminded them he was there for their protection, 'Elimarah' demonstrated her ability to reflect wounds to reassure him they would be reasonably unharmed for one afternoon.

When Grippsly snuck into the Merse offices to meet his old friend, he was dismayed to find it was Sodeyn in disguise. Surprised to see their old friend after so many years, Sodeyn bargained for Elimarah's whereabouts, and forced Grippsly to swear an oath of service to Elimarah, in exchange for her location. When Elimarah's cover was blown, she was forced to reveal Sodeyn's identity as a body double for her.

During Second Sunrise's rest in the Neck, Ffamran convinced Elimarah to demonstrate the limits of her ability to the group. Orin quietly considered the body double they had met in Torrens, performing the same seemingly unique feat of the Herald as well...
