Isles of Astele

The Imperial Palace at Dongur Ven’mar; ‘Portion of the Untouched Realm’, unscathed since its creation during the First Cycle. Created by the first Divine Aspect Tianmar, a Heraldic student of Tsohgal the Builder himself, who came to the Isles to build paradise. Statues of Tianmar’s likeness litter the Palace grounds.

Description

Hundreds of leagues north of the two main continents lie a series of islands, isolated from the cycles of devastation and rejuvenation of its now deformed continental siblings. Its distance from the constant paracausal pressure on Enaeth and Arath has protected Astele from much of the devastation that comes from man's interpretations of the gods' wills. Augury, Scions, and Atheists are all fantastical concepts for the mono-cultralistic societies that occupy the isles, primarily fey creatures and Aven; bloodlines preserved by the isle’s isolation since the Vennish War, who stamped out or enslaved the existing populations during their conquest.

The Astelleian Isles are known by their inhabitants as 'Tel’e’Mar Astele'; The Mundane Realm of the Sea. They are a cluster of six islands, divided by Imperial decree into eight Provinces, ruled by the Emperor and his seven Regents.

At the heart of the Isle of Dongur is the Imperial Capital, 'Dongur Ven'Mar'; Portion of the Heavenly Realm. It is a verdant garden akin to paradise, and is the permanent home of the Divine Aspect and his Court. It is forbidden for outsiders to trespass, and even during times of war and strife is considered sacred ground, where no warlord dares intrude.

To the west is the province of Eresh Yin. The largest province on Dongur, but the city of Yin is both the smallest and the least populated. The people of Eresh are known for harvesting celestial ore, used predominantly in the creation of luxury goods. This material is both mined from the earth, and harvested from the destruction of old-era artefacts scattered in nearby ruins.

To the south is the province of Gudea Wan. Known for its forests and shrublands, and famed for its seasonal Imperial hunt of the E-Gao; strange mournful creatures prized for their metallic organs, which are used in the development of new biological technologies.

To the southwest is the province of Urda Bao. The second largest province on Dongur, surrounded by primaeval jungles. Shadowing the city of Bao is an enormous black fortress, Kotae Castle; A refurbished remnant of the Vennish War long ago, it has never been taken by force.

To the west is the province of Shang Kur. The smallest province on Dongur, the city of Kur thrives on trade of the bark, leaves and fruits of its Ven’yrea plants, processed into silks, medicinal herbs and preserved foods, said to imbue the eater with divine favour.

Across the sea to the east lies the Isle of Ankai, and the province of Ankai Yun. The Isle is ruled by a cult dedicated to ‘The Return’; the primary religion of the Isles, awaiting the return of its Vennish masters. The city of Yun surrounds the central lighthouse palace, shining its light North-West to mark the path for the return.

North east of Dongur is the Isle of Wuru, and the province of Enki Larsa. Wuru is predominantly occupied by druidic sea tribes. These tribe were folded into the Vennish Empire long ago, who enhanced their tradition of hunting the local whale population, the Larsa, by building them a gladiatorial city called Enki-Larsa. These traditions have continued unabated since then, leading tribesmen of Wuru to be well conditioned warriors and sailors.

North lies the Isle of Shi, and the province of Shi Lao'shi. The people of Shi are a hardy sort, living in the chiselled stone city Lao'shi, protecting themselves from the harsh heat and conditions the rumbling of the nearby volcano Mt. Shi'varo bring. To the west of Shi Lao'shi is Shi Sui, a city built community of sages. Considered sacred by Astele, these sages use Mt Shi'varo’s seismic movements to portend the future. Emperors new and old will often visit these sages seeking advice on how best to protect their reign. Occasionally these Sages,’ will leave their community to spread portends and advise the change of the guard.

Far to the east are two unoccupied Isles, the isle of Luru and Er'Sin. The smallest isle, Luru is a rocky outcropping of an island. Only fishing communities dot the coast of this otherwise uninhabitable rock. The isle of Er’ Sin is a wasteland, the earth salted and barren. The ruins of a great city, Sin, was erected in hubris by a pretender emperor. His works were destroyed and his people buried; only the ruin remains as warning.
