Paedra ne' Eidern
Paedra ne' Eidern, also known as Pae, is a half-elf female Merse Consort and leader of the splinter Merse cell 'The Eidolons'.
'Pretty Pae' as her Merse compatriots call her, is a pretty woman with black-brown shortly cropped hair and brown eyes. Despite her well practiced 'welcoming presence' as a Merse Consort, her face is more likely to rest into a scowl. Like the mask she puts on for her work, her black dueling outfit and rattans are always beneath her Merse robes, no matter the occasion or the weather.
Paedra often keeps her true motivations buried deep; having so many loyalties to others calls to question her goals. Companions, even those who have known her for years, must always remember to be cautious of her casual disregard for life, and sometimes sickening enjoyment of inflicting pain and suffering on others; the former shown when she conspired to poison the Pennant Archae water supply, and the latter when she performed the almost ritualistic murder of her parents.
The fourth daughter of Ebena II and Nelon ne' Eidern, Paedra grew up with little expectation of her in the Barony of Voltaine. As a fourth child, Paedra was often belittled and abused by both her parents and her older sisters.
This abuse grew worse after an incident in 2381 at her eldest sister's wedding reception, where Paedra willingly let vagrants inside to disrupt the celebrations. After her lengthy punishment, Paedra began to sneak out of home to spend time with some of these vagrants, growing a close bond with Sodeyn and Elimarah.
Her formulative years were spent with her new friends, or training in martial arts with other third and fourth progeny of the Barony, later to be known as 'The Circle'. It was here that she fell in love with her trainer and mentor, Rohktar ne' Deios V, a feeling that was never reciprocated.
As the secret of the Circle became public, and swiftly adopted by the Barony as an aspect of the Infinite Gala between Barons, Paedra became one of the best, beaten only by Rohktar. Despite her relative success, Paedra always felt overshadowed by her family, and now by her one of her closest friends.
In 2393, Paedra was exiled by her parents for associating with Merse "Whores". As if to prove their point, she moved into an apartment above a brothel, and took to taking opiates. It was here that she was visited one final time by Rohktar; he too had been exiled, and was taking the original 40 members of the Circle with him. He offered to 'save' her from herself and join him, only for Paedra to lash out and reject his invitation as her insecurities bubbled to the surface.
As Paedra considered her now dim future, she was visited by Elimarah and Sodeyn. There they revealed their recent ascension, and asked Paedra to help them change Voltaine for the better. Desiring greatly to dismantle the status quo, Paedra guided them through Barony protocol, how to navigate the complex social contract of the Gala, and what secrets she could share about the other Barons. Slowly, Paedra became their spy, and later their key instrument in creating a loyalist spy network within the Merse Collective.
After the death of Elimarah, Paedra created the Eidolon's; a cell within the Merse to act in her stead. After the death of Sodeyn, the imprisonment of her and Elimarah's killer, and the events of the Meld, Paedra has been left rudderless and exposed, her secrets known to the world. With only the protection afforded to Harbingers to keep her afloat, it is only a matter of time before others attempt to exploit her history and skills to their own needs...
