Theovocate Senate

The Theovocate Senate is the legislative council of Torrens and the Central Planae.

History

The Theovocates mark their rise in the downfall of the Tributionary Body. In 2197 2G.c, Enaeth, particularly the Central Planae, was plagued with a number of food shortages, in part led by different tax rates on farms in the region, and the increased price of food in the major cities.

A large political club of upper and middle class progressives, consisting of lawyers, enforcers and clergymen, began to hold meetings, assessing government policy and advocating for the struggling lower class.

This group was mockingly called the 'Understate' by the Tributionaries, as they began holding sermons and political orations in the rain outside the Cylinder-Ring Tower of Torrens. This ignorance at the fermenting fury of their population inspired the Understate. They renamed themselves 'The Theovocators'; Religious and litigious advocates for the populace they represented.

They began holding their own senate independent of the Body, passing reforms, holding legislative prayer sessions, and submitting responses to poor policy actioned by the Tributionaries in the streets throughout Torrens.

This cult was seen as little more than an amusing and ineffective revolt, and were often arrested or chased away. This amusement vanished, as policy dictated by the Theovocates started to supplant their own inefficient chain of command.

As the Tributionary Body became consumed by their own civil war, the Theovocates held their most attended session; a general vote on the arrest and immediate execution of the Body leadership. It passed with no dispute, and the Theovocates let the people rush the homes of the Tributionaries, and in 2198 2G.c, ended the fascist empire in Torrens.

As the Tributionaries were strung up and executed, the Theovocates then faced the collapse of civilization in all of Enaeth; famine, war against the Tributionary remnant, and riots almost ended civilization in the Planae, were it not for the discovery of the No-Box below Torrens, and the restoration of agriculture in the Enaeth.

The modern Theovocate bares little resemblance to their revolutionary ancestors. While they are still the ruling litigators and judges of the Planae, they are consumed by the act of 'service' as its own religious practice; infinitely long ‘sermons’, litigious prayers and other organizational processes are treated with a reverence lost on foreign diplomats and ambassadors.

The senate is not known for their efficiency, taking weeks to work past their own bureaucracy and ceremony. Their work in maintaining equality and rule of law however has helped make Torrens and the Planae the safest and most stable region in Enaeth, as Theovocators, while stifling and strict, are rarely corrupt or malign.
