History

Rehn Volk'na

Rehn Volk'na, also known as 'Old Whitebeard', is a male half Goliath member of the Pennant Archae, and Fenror Volk'na's Forerunner.

Description

One of the last of the Diaspora's third generation, Rehn is an enormous hulk of a man, and despite his advanced age one of the largest in the Volk'na tribe. His long life and the lessons learned throughout it have cooled the fire in his belly; he spends most of his time tending to the Scapebeasts of the tribe, or mentoring the youth of the tribe.

He is an unreserved man, but patient and respectful, knowing that sometimes others need to make mistakes themselves before they can see the clearing for the trees.

He ultimately knows his time has past, and yet, he is unwilling to bury his hatchet until he knows the path is safe for his nieces and nephews to go on without his guidance.

History

Rehn was born during the height of the Arathern Diaspora's projects, and as a young pup, learned and specialized in the taming of the beasts they shared their land with. His generation was instrumental in rearing the first truly tame animals, raising several himself from hatchling till their deaths.

When the Emerit Ekya died, he was one of several highlighted to bear the 'mark' of replacing them and becoming the heraldic leader of the tribes. These marked warriors; the 'Omens', set out to prove their absolution.

Despite these warriors conquests, only one was selected. During the Astelleian invasion of Rhyne in 2353 3G.c, it was his close friend, Nohma, that ascended and brought the Astelleian army to ruin. Many of the Omens enviously returned to the tribes, Rehn resolved to follow Nohma as her companion.

He joined her on her pilgrimage of the city-landers world, the first members of the Pennant Archae to do so. The two zealous young warriors had their preconception of the world outside the forests changed, and so too did their relationship. They fell in love, and made ties together on return to the tribes in 2369 3G.c. Their plans for children and their own tribe were stalled when the Violate War begun. Fulfilling her oath to protect the world from itself, Nohma fought and died defending Torrens from the King in 2374 3G.c.

Losing his mind to vengeance, Nohma's Omen spent 10 long years after the war searching for the Violate King. Mercilessly slaughtering anyone in his path, Rehn fruitlessly searched for ten years to avenge his beloved's death. Failing in his task, Rehn was confronted by the path of violence he had wasted his years on, and in a moment of revelation ended his quest of vengeance and returned to the Scapelands, offering himself in service to the Volk'na, Nohma's tribe.

Now as a Forerunner for Feros Volk'na, Rehn mentors the youngest generation, guiding them away from the path of zealotry and retribution that Nohma worked so hard to stray the tribes away from.

Recent Events

Rehn chose to accompany Fenror on a pilgrimage to Voltaine and attempt to recover the 'Eye of the Ephemeral', an artifact sacred to the Pennant Archae. As one of the only members of the tribes with city-lander experience, he helped guide the zealous Fenror in locating their object, and with the assistance of thieves, stole it from a Baron's treasury.

Rehn was then encountered by Second Sunrise, traveling with Fenror's group north. He toyed with Ffamran, recognizing him as an Astelleian but not openly acknowledging the history they shared. Rehn helped separate the groups when Vaxis' 'Pathless' status was discovered, encouraging Second Sunrise to leave, while attempting to cool the hotheaded Fenror from battle.

Rehn and Fenror then rejoined the Volk'na, presenting the Eye to Feros. He joined the Volk'na in their pilgrimage to the Memorial Grounds, and was present at the Recall of the tribal leaders as one of Feros Forerunners. He was unable to discourage Fenror from agreeing with Fafnir on the tribes' declaration of war, and pressed into the war effort, joining the scapebeast riders.

He was present at the funeral of Feros, where Fafnir took command and declared the annihilation of all organised civilization. He supported Fenror's claim to lead, and when the Schism occurred, helped council Fenror as the new Pathsetter of the Volk'na, and commander of the Orthodox Pennant Archae. When Fenror planned to betray the Separatist Pennant Archae in a joint alliance with Palisades, Rehn was instrumental in killing their forward scouts, saving Ffamran's life and preventing the Separatist faction from learning of TAERA's retaliatory march south.

Rehn acknowledged Ffamran's participation in the failed conquest of Rhyne 50 years ago, and deciding to let fate dictate the future of TAERA and the Pennant Archae, left a wounded Ffamran to navigate to Rhyne alone.
