HERALDS CAMPAIGN
Orin Somnihlius
Orin Somnihlius was former Brother Commander of the Amansir, Harbinger for TAERA, and now a member of Second Sunrise. He is the only currently known Null in Enaeth.
Orin is a slightly disheveled man, with shoulder length black hair over a torn, thoroughly tarnished white Amansir robe. Despite being identified as a 'Null', there is no outward indication he is any different from a human or half-elf male. As a Null, Orin experiences no dreams, and feels 'vertigo' when Augurs or Heralds use their abilities.
Due to injuries sustained in his service as Harbinger, he has lost both arms to the shoulder; his left arm in a battle with the Black Ruhk, and his right to the mouth of a siege Scapebeast, both of which were replaced with mechanical limbs by Vaxis.
Whilst foraging for flowers, an old hermit in the Circiern Region found a wandering child. Unable to give a name, or location of his home, the hermit 'Grandpa' took the boy into his home, naming him Orin.
Orin grew to be a quiet, solitary child; he never was able to integrate with the other children in the nearby frontier village, lacking shared experiences of dreams and ‘imagination’ sometimes gifted by the gods to the young. They called him Somnihilus’; dream-void. Old before he was young, he spent most of his time being taught the world by his ailing grandpa in his home in the forest.
Fascinated by Orin's growing otherworldly abilities, Grandpa taught him techniques on how to harness and control the flow of this 'light' within Orin, something which they discovered had an effect on Grandpa's augury, and later, his growing Rampancy.
Increasingly upset at the village's increasingly alienating treatment of Orin, Grandpa entered the final, violent stages of Rampancy, and sought to destroy the village in retaliation, while Orin used his limited understanding of his ability to slow his rampage.
Brothers of the Amansir arrived at the scene to find a small child holding back a rampant man, fire and smoke surrounding them in a ruined town. Left with little option, Grandpa was slain by the Amansir.
Led by the Amansir to Rhyne, it was discovered what Orin actually was; an incredibly rare being called a Null; baring a genetic ability to be 'invisible' to the touch of the Gods. In a debate that overtook the leadership of TAERA, Orin was allowed to decide his future, electing to join Jethe Bornheld, the now Grand Father of the Amansir, to help save others from Rampancy. Bornheld mentored Orin like Grandpa before him to now be the first Amansir trained from youth. Incorperating the mental training from his "Grandpa" into Bornheld's own military experience, they together developed 'Counter-Esoterics'; a new training regime for Amansir to hone one's mind during and after experience of traumatic esoteric experiences, such as fighting Scions or Rampants.

Now an adult, Orin swiftly moved through the ranks of the Amansir. He became the youngest brother to earn the title 'Commander' after foiling a plot to assassinate Herald Elimarah Nylone and destroy the Cylinder Ring Tower, destroying the conspirators, the terrorist group known as Broken Mantra, in the process.
While initially filled with pride, Orin's new position as leader, and not warrior, meant he could no longer ignore the increasingly harsh methods the Amansir deployed to pacify Rampants. The echoes of his Grandpa's teachings, to care and protect all life at all cost, began to conflict with field reports and actions undertaken in his name for a 'safer' Enaeth.
While on one such frontier expedition, Orin and his brothers pacified a large 'grotto' of hiding Rampants. Lacking the room to transport all the subjugated Rampants, Orin's brothers discussed and involved Orin in a decision to kill the last few Rampants solve the problem, one a child. Unable to live with such a decision, Orin offered no compromise in raising his hands to fight his brothers, leaving their crumpled and broken forms on the ground. Orin released the prisoners, and transported his brothers in chains back to the Black Tower, accusing them of abandoning their duties.
At the behest of Bornheld, Orin was convinced to take leave while the situation was reviewed and resolved by the Amansir leadership. Orin, considering his future, passed his time training in a public house in Torrens, hoping that his continued focus on his abilities and strength will yet reveal a path forward for him…
