HERALDS CAMPAIGN
Ghislain the Bloodletter
Ghislain was the leader of a prominent and criminal cult called 'Cruor', which performed blood sacrifices to the god of hunger, ERUM. He is assumed dead after the events of the 'Defence of Torrens', in battle against the Violate King.
Ghislain shares his features with all Scion-blooded individuals; white skin and horns. Ghislain is unusual in that his horns have spread to his shoulders and the back of his head.
Ghislain is described as repugnant, moralless and incredibly dangerous. Despite the evident threat the way he moves through a room, Ghislain speaks smoothly and politely, with delicate slow movements to understate his words.
While he often presents in his simple undergarments, he does dress for the appropriate occasion, with an impeccable style and sense of taste.
Despite his seemingly carefree and charismatic presentation, when threatened one sees the cold, hungry look that settles onto his face, eagerly awaiting a challenge for him to tear asunder.
Like many cult leaders, little is known of Ghislain pre-ascension. It has been assumed in the many, many investigations in Cruor, that Ghislain may have been the son of a government official, potentially even a Baron's child, explaining his effortless use of language and fine taste in clothing.
Whatever his origin, Ghislain took what was an unknown cult into his own personal army, demonstrating that power could be found in an individual's blood. He recruited from many desperate rampants, seeking a cure in these blood rites. To the surprise of undercover investigators, these 'treatments' seemed to work, until it was revealed that Ghislain drugged the sacrifices with heavy doses of laudanum before their draining.
Even more disturbing, these rampants continued belief in Ghislain transformed their augury. Called 'Cruorkinesis', many members of the cult gained the ability to manipulate blood. Reported to the Theovocates and Barony, a joint force was deployed to deal with the cult.
Throughout the Third Gift Cycle, Cruor would have many clashes with the city-states, able to survive due to their adapted knowledge of the land and the secret places harbored within.
That was until a successful undercover operation, led by Herald Jareth Naraiya, stormed their occupied fortress. many members were arrested, including Ghislain himself.
A prisoner left to rot in his cell, Ghislain was visited by an unusual guest; Herald Regina herself. Recognizing the need for every weapon they had to fight the Violate King with, Regina bargained with Ghislain; his cult in exchange for his service. Should he betray the alliance, his remaining cult members would be executed immediately.
Ghislain agreed, to the suspicion of many. Perhaps he saw as well no future with the Violate King. More likely he waits to find the right opportunity to escape... or sample the blood of something he has never tasted before...
