Broken Mantra

Broken Mantra is an apocalyptic cult dedicated to the ‘Era Errata’, the end times of Noth. They are known for their obsession with technology and terrorist acts throughout Enaeth.

History

Before their fanatical conversion into the cult, ‘Broken Mantra’, its members were unconnected tribes of nomadic Antiquitists. They prowled the landscape, scavenging for reliquaries and other ancient technologies to trade for and worship.

They were seen as friendly but otherwiser strange wanderers, but sometimes their esoteric knowledge and scavenged goods helped larger communities repair damaged technology, such as the restart of the Mechanised Granaries after the Violate War.

Their turning point came when one group uncovered auricle recordings hidden in a reliquary underground. This recording divined the coming of a prophet to ‘herald’ the Era Errata; an event when Noth would be consumed by The Rubicon, allowing humanity to join the gods in their realm forever. They frantically spread this message to other groups in search of this prophet.

Their search led them to a philosopher called Esher, on the run for his heretical oral works. He had outlined, to poor reception in Rhyne, that the atheists of old were instead ‘accelerationists’ and the Declension was their failed attempt to attain divinity alongside the gods.

He believed the Era Errata could intentionally occur through destabilising Noth even further; by sacrificing Heralds, using deadly atheist weapons to destroy towns and cities, and any other catastrophic means necessary to collapse the fragile barrier between god and man.

The nomad groups rapidly radicalised into one techno-fetishist, doomsday cult behind their new prophet. Now known as Broken Mantra, the cult’s existence has been marked by many terror attacks across Enaeth, culminating in a plot to destroy the Cylinder Ring Tower and kill Herald Elimarah Nylone.

This was foiled by an Amansirn raid on their base of operations in 2396 3.Gc, led by Brother Commander Orin Somnihlus. Esher was killed, and the cult scattered. It was later rekindled by Prelate Vaserel, who led its reformation under their new 'White Prophet' in 2398 4G.c.

Recent Events

Broken Mantra was first encountered by Second Sunrise in the Fallen Litany, worshiping an unholy statue and a 'sample' of flesh. This statue was revealed to be a living creature, a 'Biocurate'; an unholy marriage of flesh and technology. During their battles with Broken Mantra, it became evident to both Orin and Ffamran that the cult had access to Amansirn training manuals or trainers, and that some wielded weapons and had Daisei training exclusive from Astele. It is evident they have access to significant amounts of technology and bio-enhancement.

Encountering their leader, Prelate Vaserel, he attempted to prevent them from rescuing Herald Elimarah from her torture in a thinking machine further within. He recognized Orin, and thanked him for killing their false prophet, so their true 'White Prophet' could reveal herself to them, and fulfill their promise.

He failed to prevent the party from rescuing Elimarah, as he was swiftly dispatched by Orin. On Second Sunrise's escape from the Fallen Litany, they were blockaded by a hundred zealots, many of whom were killed by the party. With the exposure of their base of operations, and the killing of leadership figures and significant members, Broken Mantra's current organisational state is unknown.
